On December 1, MTU celebrated the grand opening of its new plant inAiken County, South Carolina, where Series 2000 and Series 4000 engineswill be built. Engine displays, presentations and plant tours were highlightsof the event attended by more than 300, including customers and distributorsas well as South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and U.S. CongressmanGresham Barrett, both of whom spoke about MTU's significant investmentin the state and local community. Among the highlights on display wasa giant 12,000-horsepower MTU 20V8000 marine engine - one of fourbound for the Austal shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, to power the U.S. Navy'sJoint High Speed Vessel - was brought to Aiken for the event.
